If you want to avoid the capital and experience Britain’s beautiful countryside then get in your car and escape! Your journey can begin by getting on the M4, taking junction 13 of the M25 at Staines, follow the signs for Old Windsor. Take the 3rd exit at the roundabout towards Runnymede Meadow. Runnymede is a water-meadow which runs alongside the River Thames. King John sealed the Magna Carta here is 1215.

If you feel like stroll you can stop off at Windsor and walk along the Thames. If not you can stay on the A308 towards Datchet. Which was known as ‘Datecha in the Domesday Book in 1086, also famous for the Windsor to London ferry used by the Royals over the years.

Next stop is Eton, famous for the school. You will see the Eton College Chapel, the boarding houses and playing fields. Can have a stroll around the shops.

Now onto the home of rowing venue in 2012, in Dorney. Also known for being the first place in the country where a pineapple plant successfully grew pineapples! It is only 30 minutes away from Reading.

The Runnymede to Dorney route is a great day out.

The route above is near Reading, Berkshire, you would go to Dorney first, by taking exit 7 off the M4. You could stop at Dorney Lake which is nestled amongst scenic parkland, just outside Windsor. Dorney Lake is a world class sporting and events venue with an inspiring Olympic Heritage. Owned and managed by Eton College.

You can drive into Eton along the B3026 which is 5 minutes from Dorney. Then follow the Eton Road and at the roundabout take the 2nd exit into Slough Road into Datchet. Then follow the signs to Surrey. Taking junction 13 of the M25 at Staines, follow the signs for Old Windsor. Take the 3rd exit at the roundabout towards Runnymede Meadow.

Whichever way you choose to do the route, and wherever you choose to stop and explore on this route, you are guaranteed a great day out along Britain’s winding roads.
